Never meet a stranger at your home or in a private location. * Safe Exchange Zones: We strongly recommend meeting at designated "Safe Trade" spots. Many local police departments in the Peoria area offer their lobbies or well-lit parking lots for these transactions.

• Bring a Friend: If possible, don’t go alone. If you must go alone, tell a friend exactly where you are going and who you are meeting.

• Daylight Hours only: Only conduct transactions during daylight. Avoid meeting after dark in unpopulated areas.

Keep your money in your pocket until you are satisfied.

• Inspect First: Never pay for an item before you have seen it in person and verified its condition.

• Cash is King (Usually): For small transactions, cash is safest. For larger amounts, meet at a bank to verify a cashier’s check or use Escrow.com.

• The "Digital Cash" Warning: Be extremely cautious with Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp. Only use these if you have the item in your hand. Never send a "deposit" to "hold" an item.

• Title & Paperwork: When selling a vehicle, hide your personal address on the registration until the moment the sale is finalized.

• Test Drives: Always ask to see a valid driver's license before allowing a test drive. Ride along with the buyer, and stay in familiar, populated areas.

• VIN Verification: Always check the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) against the title to ensure they match.

• Public Places: Meet in a busy parking lot (like a grocery store or mall) for the initial showing.

🚨 5. How to Spot a "Red Flag" User

Trust your gut. If a deal feels "off," walk away. Common red flags include:

• The "Sob Story": They are out of the country, in the military, or have a family emergency and need you to ship the item.

• The "Price is Too Low": A $20,000 truck listed for $4,000 is always a scam.

• Urgency: They pressure you to act "right now" or someone else will get the deal.

• Poor Communication: Messages that look like they were copy-pasted or use very formal, "robotic" language.
